Song of the week: “Raise It Up”

By Sadie Jackson

This week’s song is “Raise It Up” from the movie August Rush.

August Rush is about this twelve year old orphan boy who is certain his parents love him and have always wanted him. He claims he can communicate with them through the music in life. He runs away from the orphanage in search of his parents and he ends up in the city.

In the movie, you learn that both of his parents are musicians, his mom is part of an orchestra and his dad is in a pop rock band.

I feel like the lyrics of this song don’t just have to relate to orphans, but they can relate to people of today’s time as well.

“Seems to be nothing left for me
Momma’s gone daddy didn’t wanna be
And now I’m all by myself
Wondering where is love or should I just give up
Ya know

Life falls down on me cuts into my soul
But I know I got the strength to make it through it all
‘Cause I’m still standin’ tall
breakin’ through these walls
I gotta give my all”

Those are my favorite lyrics of the whole song. I just love the message this song portrays-- no matter what you are going through, you can handle it with strength, music, and prayer.
