Nellie Persing retires after 18 years
By Alisha Weight
TAHS cafeteria worker and summer custodian Nellie Persing retired in December, 2011. She had worked with the district since 1993. She made and prepared all of the food for Head Start and the elementary school and served in the high school lunch line. Best known as “the French fry lady,” Persing served in all of the banquets that the cafeteria catered. During the summer when she didn’t work in the cafeteria, she was helping with the custodial staff.
“Both jobs she did, I did with her,” cafeteria and custodial worker Mary Jo Beck said. “She is a very pleasant lady to work with.”
“I could definitely tell she loved her job here at TAHS and all the students. She was a very hard worker,” sophomore Desiree Zimmerman stated.
Some of the things Persing will be looking forward to now that she more free time include spending time with her family and friends, going out with her friends, and spending some much needed time with her animals.
“I loved my jobs here and all the staff and students,” Persing commented.
Food service director Jennifer Weaver said, “Nellie is a very hard worker from what I’ve seen, with a big caring heart for what she did here. She was always on time for work, too.”
“She was an amazing lady,” Jessica Miller, a junior, remarked. “She was always nice to us students.”
