Tyrone’s varsity track team competed in the Bellwood Invitational on Monday, April 30th. The boys team brought home a third-place finish while the girls had some outstanding performances.
Charles Wilson-Adams took first in the high jump with a height of 6’ 5”. Wilson-Adams also took home a third in the long jump with a 21’.75”, and third in the triple jump with 42’ 9”.
“Personally I don’t think I did well. If you look at it statically I guess I did okay, but I know I can do better,” Wilson-Adams said.
In other events Hayden Zook, eleventh grade, competed in the 800m, and the 1600m placing second and third respectively. Zook while running these races put up two new personal best. Zook ran a 2:06.45 in the 800m run and 4:41.33 in the 1600m.
Cody Dickson didn’t place at the Bellwood Invitational, but this was his first and last Bellwood Invite that he would compete at being a senior on the Tyrone varsity track team.
“Being with all my friends and doing well for my first year of track and field since ninth grade is what I enjoy most about track,” Dickson said.
Nick Patton, senior, took first in the 100m before re-aggravating his hamstring in the 200m run. John Guy, senior, placed fifth in the 110m hurdles and 6th in the 300m hurdles. Corey Snyder, junior, also took second in the Javelin throw.
For the girls Jordyn Swogger took second in the 100m, and second in the 200m run. Lexi Patton placed fifth in the 100m, and fifth in the 200m. Michaela Diehl took fourth in the 400m and was a part of the fifth place 4x100m relay team with Brittany Friday, Swogger, and Patton.
The members of the track team that met the qualifying standards for the 63rd Annual West Central Coaches meet will be competing on Friday, May 4, 2012 at Mansion Park in Altoona.
“I want to jump seven foot at the WCC, and to do that I am going to get focused and prepare for the worst,” Wilson-Adams said.
