Tyrone Area Football faced off with Bellefonte on September 16, 2011 at Gray Memorial Field. The Tyrone Golden Eagles went into game three (1-1) after losing to Mifflin County last week. Tyrone was up 26-0 at the half with scores from senior quarterback Steve Franco, and junior defensive back Charles Wilson-Adams, and they wouldn’t look back from there. Entering the second half of the game Tyrone put up two more scores in the third quarter to make it 38-0. Head Coach John Franco was ready to get the younger guys some experience.
“It was really exciting, but scary at the same,” Erik Wagner Tyrone sophomore said. Wagner is the second string quarterback behind Steve Franco.
Wagner played the whole fourth quarter against Bellefonte. “I learned to have confidence in my abilities, and follow what I know and I’ll be okay,” Wagner said.
Once the JV’s got into the game they scored two more touchdowns of their own. Tyrone sophomore running back James Oliver scored on a run to the outside. The last score of the game was put up by sophomore Jared Muir who plunged it in from the one yard line.
“It felt like I couldn’t be stopped,” Oliver said about his touchdown run on Friday.
“It was relieving, knowing we did what we had to do, and seeing the kids that get us prepared for the week,” senior Nick Patton said, “They will be a pretty decent team. The way they performed assured me that they are preparing us good for the teams ahead.”
The final score of the game was 51-0. Tyrone’s head Coach John Franco said that this was a good step to getting better, but we have awhile to go.
Junior Varsity played Monday, September 19 at Bellefonte at 6:00 and came out on top 55-0. Varsity will face off with the Bearcats of Huntingdon Friday September 23 at 7:00.
