2012’s Pennsylvania Music Education Association (PMEA) Regional Chorus is being held at Tyrone Area High School from March 7-10. The TAHS music department has to house 176 students, from eleven counties, and 50 choir directors.
Mrs. Hipp, TAHS choir director, has to place each student in a responsible home. Host families have to provide host students with breakfast, a shower, and a bed to sleep in. All other meals will be provided by TAHS. Students will be housed based on gender and at least two per host family.
“My husband and I are hosting 4 students and we have hosted for both chorus and band in previous years. It’s fun to meet students from another school district,” Mrs. Conrad, sixth grade teacher and host parent, said.
At the time of this story, Hipp needed 22 more homes to house students in order to meet the required accommodations.
Host families are provided with a free concert on the evening of Friday, March 9 in the TAHS auditorium as a way of thanking them for hosting.
“I have stayed with a host family once, and they were the sweetest people,” Kathleen Beck, sophomore, stated.
