Driver’s education taught after school

By Alisha Weight

The driver’s education class held by Mr. McNitt driver’s education teacher is now held after school hours, form 3:15p.m. Till 5:15p.m. Driver’s ED is 17 two-hour sessions.

“The district is trying to save money, and this one of many ways they are trying to accomplish this,” McNitt, driver’s education teacher, said.

McNitt has been the Driver’s education teacher since last year; he took extensive training at IUP the summer of 2010.

“Students who complete this course are far better drivers than those who don’t,” McNitt said.

Driver’s ED does not cost anything; the only thing that you need to pay for is behind the wheel instruction, with Mr. Rossman and McNitt. The cost for this is $45.00. There are five one hour sessions and the sixth is the actual test that McNitt gives.

“I took this class to become more educated on driving,” Sarah Wiser, sophomore, said.
There is only a 30 person maximum for each driver’s education class. Driver’s education is worth a ½ credit towards graduation. The class is only Mondays through Wednesdays, it is for 5 ½ weeks. Driver’s education is only offered once each marking period and once in July.

“This is a first come first serve basis. Only students who want it bad enough will put the effort into signing up for the class,” McNitt said.

“It’s a good learning experience,” Israel Stroud, sophomore, said.
There is more information available on the TASD website under McNitt’s name.
