On October 3rd Tyrone Area High School will start the Choose two program in the cafeteria. This idea came from the restaurant Panera and is set up so that student and teachers can choose what they would like to eat. Included in the program will be one of the pre-packaged salads, a pre-packaged sandwich, pita, or wrap, an apple, and a milk carton.
In charge of this program are Mike Weber and Jennifer Weaver.
When asked if regular lunches will continue Weber stated “Yes everything will be the same, it will just be an addition.”
The Choose two program will be offered to both students and staff in the high school only, and will be the same cost as a normal lunch.
Choices will vary each day with three different salads and three different sandwiches, pita’s or wraps. This program will give students more freedom to choose what they would like to eat each day for lunch. Choose two will also continue into the following school years and possibly move into the middle school if all goes as planned.
“I think this program will be a big hit,” Weber said.
The Choose two program has been tried in other schools in and around Pennsylvania and have gone over well. Weber is hoping Choose two will attract more students and staff who don’t eat school lunches.
