On January 16, 2012, the TAHS swim team swam against Altoona in a home meet.
With a score of 111 to 47, Altoona defeated the boys team, and with a score of 87 to 69, Altoona just defeated the girls team by a margin.
Boys team captains Brandon Fink, junior, and Devon Wiser, senior, led the boys team into the meet with hopes of bringing home a win.
“We came on strong and did our best but in the end the fact is, you win some and you lose some,” Fink said.
Order of events in the Altoona meet were- 200 medley relay, 200 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 50 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 100 freestyle, 500 freestyle, 200 free relay, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, and the 400 freestyle relay.
Results from the boys meet were as follows:
In the 200 freestyle- 2nd place with a time of 2:05.68, Everhart, 3rd place with a time of 2:11.12, D. Wiser, in 5th place with a time of 2:30.60, T. Wiser.
In the 50 freestyle- 1st place with a time of 25.05, Fink, 5th place with a time of 27.6, J. Parson, 6th place with a time of 30.63, Raabe.
In the 100 butterfly- 2nd place with a time of 1:06.53, D. Wiser.
In the 100 freestyle- 2nd place with a time of 55.09, Fink, 5th place with a time of 1:05.89, J. Parson, 6th place with a time of 1:31.78, C. Parson.
In the 500 freestyle- 1st place with a time of 5:42.58, Everhart, 5th place with a time of 8:44.13, Raabe, 6th place with a time of 8:49.23, C. Parson.
In the 200 freestyle relay- 1st place with a time of 1:45.29, the team of D. Wiser, Everhart, J. Parson, Fink.
In the 100 backstroke- 2nd place with a time of 1:20.31, T. Wiser.
In the 400 freestyle relay- 2nd place with a time of 4:00.72, the team of J. Parson, Everhart, D. Wiser, Fink.
“I really feel that we could have won the meet because we do have a fast team, and we do a team prayer, that helps us by putting God on our side,” Fink said.
Girls team captains Kayla Barony, senior, and Jennie Kobuck, senior, led t
he girls into the Altoona meet with their heads held high.
“We came in with high hopes and we were really competitive. In the end it was close, but we just didn’t have the numbers to win,” Barony said.
Results from the girls meet were as follows:
In the 200 freestyle- 1st place with a time of 2:22.79, Brisbin, 3rd place with a time of 2:50.08, Barony, 6th place with a time of 3:10.91, Aungst.
In the 50 freestyle- 1st place with a time of 27.64, Harris, 3rd place with a time of 32.34, Kobuck, 5th place with a time of 33.58, Payne.
In the 100 freestyle- 3rd place with a time of 1:16.93, Payne, 4th place with a time of 1:21.94, Nagle, 5th place with a time of 1:22.35, Nevling.
In the 500 freestyle- 1st place with a time of 6:58.24, Kobuck, 3rd place with a time of 7:55.67, Barony.
In the 200 freestyle relay- 1st place with a time of 2:05.04, the team of Brisbin, Harris, Kobuck, Barony, 3rd place with a time of 2:26.14, the team of Aungst, Nevling, Nagle, Payne.
In the 100 backstroke- 1st place with a time of 1:14.51, Harris, 4th place with a time of 1:45.39, Nagle.
In the 100 breaststroke- 2nd place with a time of 1:23.55, Brisbin, 4th place with a time of 1:46.19, Aungst, 5th place with a time of 1:49.15, Nevling.
In the 400 freestyle relay- 1st place with a time of 4:43.06, the team of Brisbin, Harris, Kobuck, Barony, 3rd place with a time of 5:46.31, the team of Aungst, Nevling, Nagle, Payne.
“I really feel that we could have won the meet because we had the ability, just not the numbers. I mean look at the score, it’s only a few points difference; we could have had them,” Barony said.
Head coach Tom Gets felt similarly.
“The swimmers really showed improvement at this meet. All of their times dropped and I’m sure they will be lower by the end of the season,” Getz, said.
Tyler Wiser said, “Everyone, boys and girls, had great times at the meet and I’m sure they’ll keep getting better,” Speaking for the entire team.
