21st annual Snowball held at Tyrone

By Karah Postreich

Tyrone Area High School will be hosting their 21st annual semi-formal Snowball on Saturday, January 14th, 2012. The dance is held from 8:00pm to 11:00pm and tickets are $8.00 per person and $14.00 per couple.

The theme of the Snowball, masquerade, was decided by the high school Student Council members with input from Mr. Rhoades, Student Council advisor, one week before the event.

“Last year almost 300 students were in attendance, but only 100 forms were collected so far this year,” Rhoades said.

Members of TAHS staff will be chaperoning, and members of Student Council will provide the refreshments for the night.

A large number of students from other schools will be attending the Snowball. In order to attend they must provide a form from their principal stating that they are in good standing with no major disciplinary problems at their current high school.

According to Mrs. Anderson and Ms. McLarren, TAHS alumni and current staff members, Snowball was different when they were in high school because it was seen as a chance to dress up and hang out, as opposed to a formal dance.

“I remember having a lot more dances when I was in school,” Anderson, special education teacher, said. “So dressing up for the Snowball dance was extra fun. Nowadays students only attend two dances: the Snowball and the prom.”

Dustin Wilson, sophomore, is attending Snowball with his girlfriend, Nicole Beeler from Bellwood. They will be getting pictures taken at Wilson’s house before the dance.

“I’m looking forward to dancing with everyone the most. It’s so much fun being in that huge crowd of people,” said Wilson.

Caitlin Williams, sophomore, is attending Snowball with her friend, April Noel, sophomore. Williams is looking forward to the music and dancing.

“We won’t be getting any official pictures,” Williams said, “but we will be taking some on my camera or hers.”
