Song of the week: “Carbon Copy”

By Sadie Jackson

I chose “Carbon Copy” by Karmin for this week’s song. I picked this song because I love what it portrays.

“… It’s kind of what it sounds like; just going against the grain and doing your own thing,” Amy Heidemann, lead singer of Karmin explained on a YouTube video alongside her partner Nick Noonan. Some of my favorite lyrics from the song are:

“I’ll never play like Jordan ‘cause my feet don’t fit his shoes
I’ll never write like Mozart because I only know the blues
I’ll never know the world from a book up on the shelf
I’ll never know the world if I never know myself”

Karmin is not a known band. I first found Karmin when I heard their cover of “Super Bass” by Nicki Minaj.

Karmin covers many types of artists from Adele to Sugarland to Nicki Minaj. They have a whole album of cover songs that is also available on iTunes.

Nick and Amy, the members of Karmin, have also released several singles including their original songs.
