Mr. Murphy’s, high school dean of students, opinion was involved in making the new dress code, but his wasn’t necessarily the one who made it happen. It was the school board, students, teachers, and community who made the new dress code here at TAHS possible.
The consequences’ that are stated in the handbook for the 2011-2012 school year dress codes are 1st offence after school detention. 2nd offence Saturday detention and the 3rd offence are 1-10 days out of school and an informal hearing with the school board.
“I’ve been a teacher here for 5 years here at TAHS and I’ve seen the way students dress. So I’ve taken that into consideration and gave my opinion about the dress code in the making of the rules,” Murphy said.
“The new rules are good but really strict,” Alexis Riggleman, Senior, said.
The new dress code was officially informed the first day of school when the students got their student handbook. The dress code is being pushed more this school year because of expectations.
“I believe students perform better when dressed appropriately,” Murphy said.
Starting this year students have to pay $20 to receive a parking pass. Also the consequence for a student with no visible parking pass is a $10 ticket each time they don’t see your pass. This consequence also comes into effect if a student is parked in a reserved, parent, or handicapped parking space. There is a possible no parking privilege if these rules keep being broken after the first offence.
“[This] Makes students realize the world isn’t free” Charles Zimmerman, Senior, said.
These rules were made to keep things more organized with the parking system and to make things safer for the students and faculty here at TAHS.
“There is no tolerance for your mistakes,” officer Bub said. “This year alone there are 18 infractions to the students and faculty. “
Also the printers got removed from the classrooms this school year because of the ink costs are increasing and have become a financial burden.
There are too many teachers and students printing and not enough money to pay for everyone’s ink.
The only way that you are able to print anything is if you have a lap top cart or are working in one of the computer labs.
