Student shares tips for enjoying Tyrone football games

By Jennah Meek, Eagle Eye reporter

Cheering crowds, blowing whistles and clashing helmets, these are the sounds that get Tyrone excited for Golden Eagle football. If you’re new to TAHS or even if you’ve been an Golden Eagle fan for years, check out my tips for making a TAHS varsity football game as easygoing and exciting as possible.

1. Pay attention to the weather- Weather can play a crucial part in the football games. If you know it will snow or rain and you’re determined to cheer your team in the stands then bring the proper clothing like a sweatshirt or jacket. You see it is hot, then don’t wear heavy, baggy clothing.

2. Bring blankets/seats/cushions if you plan to sit the in stands- Those bleachers can be very uncomfortable especially if it’s cold out. Having a seat or blankets it will make the game a more comfortable experience.

3. Eat before you leave- If you eat before you leave then you will save money especially in the rough times with the economy.

4. Get to the stadium early- When big games come up such as the Backyard Brawl you will see how hard it is to find parking and even a seat. When you get there early you will find parking that isn’t across town and a seat with you home team. As an avid game attendee Rodney Meek says “I leave around 6:30 if the game is home but earlier if the game is away or an important one”

5. Bring enough cash- Let’s say you didn’t have time to eat before you left. Well then make sure you bring enough cash. Bring about $40.00 if you have a family of four like my parents, but $20.00 should be good for one person. Food and drink don’t cost that much. Drinks can be about $2.00 and food $5.00-$10.00.

6. Make plans with friends/family- Watching the game with family or friends can be more exciting, so make plans with them when going to the football games.

7. Go to bathroom/concession stands five minutes before half time- Half time can be the worst time to use the bathroom or get food and drinks. When you go five minutes before halftime you will be ahead of the line and when everybody breaks you will be done and free to watch the half time show

8. Watch the halftime show- Not only does the football team work hard all year, so does the band and color guard. They don’t get as much credit as they should so is you left early to the concession stands then you can watch the halftime show. Tyrone’s band is very good so show them support.

9. Cheer on Tyrone! - Don’t forget to cheer on your team. Even when Tyrone is losing cheer the boys on, it helps them get motivated and it makes the games more interesting.

10. Leave as early as you can- If you found parking. then you’re lucky but leaving can be a problem. People are parked really close to you and traffic can be a nightmare, so leave when you know that the score is final. You will get home easily and safely.
