Juniors will not take PSSAs again

By Bethany Harker

Starting next school year, juniors will not have to take the PSSAs. The Keystone Tests will replace the PSSAs for Annual Yearly Progress purposes. The test was approved by the Board of Education but will not count as a graduation requirement until the class of 2019.

“I am shifting slightly toward SAT prep at 11th[grade], but essentially we will not make any changes as what we have been doing is research-driven, has prepped kids well for college and for work, and has produced 1st in the state growth,” Mr. Everhart, Chairman of the English Department and English eleventh grade teacher, said.

“It makes me mad because my class had to take the PSSAs in order to graduate and the underclassmen won’t have to,” Breanna Williams, senior, said.

“I think it’s unfair because my junior class had to take them and the underclassmen get off easy,” Kyle Raabe, junior, said.
