TAHS boys’ tennis starts season
By Ashley Hamilton
TAHS boys’ tennis started its season with eighteen players in grades nine through twelve.
“We want to compete for district championship and win the Mountain League,” Mr. Hample, TAHS tennis coach and retired police science teacher, said.
Richard Crabtree, Ben Hample, Justin Miller and Max Babe are the four returning starters.
“I want them to learn to compete, and it’s not all about winning,” Hample said “To be able to compete at a high level and when that is achieved, wins will come with it.”
With eighteen players three courts and no assistant coach, it’s hard to get every player to practice Hample stated. In order to combat this, Hample had to schedule two different practice sessions, one from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and the second from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
“The weather has permitted practice every day,” Hample said.
Ryan Cox, sophomore, joined tennis to do something between basketball and football. “The competition is great,” Cox said.
Aaron Gurekovich, junior and another player on the team, said, “I’m one with the ball and the racket.”
Kristian Cowher, sophomore and player, said, “Mr. Hample wanted me to join, and I love him.”
