Tyrone wins big against Penns Valley

By Corey Snyder

Tyrone went into Friday night’s game shutting out their past two opponents. They were looking for their third shutout against Penns Valley, a team that had not won a game since the season opener.

Tyrone didn’t take long to establish their momentum when sophomore running back James Oliver took the opening kickoff 85-yards for the first score of the night.

Penns Valley wouldn’t have an answer the rest of the night for the high-powered offense of Coach John Franco.

Tyrone’s next score came on a Chris Getz 11-yard run that would make the score 13-0.

During the next drive Getz would suppress the 1,000 yard mark on the season for the second a year in a row.

Steve Franco had his turn when he hooked up with fellow wide out Nick Patton for a 35-yard touchdown that would take the score to 20-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Franco once again hooked up with Patton in the second quarter for a 29-yard pitch and catch.

Getz put up two more scores of one yard and seven yards out to put the blow out lead to 41-0.

Franco and the rest of the Eagles offense were not done. Franco found junior wide out Charles Wilson-Adams for a 27-yard touchdown to take it to halftime with a score of 48-0.

Tyrone’s defense could take some of this credit for this high scoring offense. The Eagle’s defense put up its third straight shutout and fourth of the season, only allowing Penns Valley 108 total yards while the Eagles offense compiled 361-yards on the night.

“We played hard every play, and we take it as disrespect when someone scores on us, let alone on our own field,” Wilson-Adams said about the defense performance Friday night.

Tyrone’s J.V.s got to start the second half of the game and got some valuable playing time, scoring another touchdown and holding Penns Valley offense to zero points in the second half.

Tyrone is now 8-1 overall after 54-0 win over Penns Valley and plays host to Juniata at Mansion Park Friday, November 4, 2011.
