Eagles’ running game dictates course of second half

By Corey Snyder

Once again Tyrone Eagles football relied on their running game in the second half Friday night when the Eagles ran senior running back Chris Getz 21 of the 26 plays to produce two touchdowns with 168-yards, sealing Tyrone’s 5th victory of the season. Getz finished the game with 191-yards on 27 carries.

For four years Central Mountain has fallen to the Golden Eagles.
The game was neck and neck when both teams had a total of 0 points after the first quarter of play Friday night.

Central Mountain put up the first score of the night when the Wildcat offense drove down on Tyrone’s defense and scored from 5-yards out.

Tyrone answered quickly compiling their own yards when Steve Franco called his own number and scored from the four yard line.

It was a back and forth game in the first half. Tyrone’s defense couldn’t slow down the Wildcats big plays. Central Mountain took the kickoff on the very next drive and scored on a 13-yard run by English with 3:58 left in the first half.

Tyrone’s next drive took less than 14 seconds when their high-powered offense showed their determination when Franco hooked up with Charles Wilson-Adams for a 64-yard touchdown with 3:44 left.

“Conditioning made me faster, since I was fast I was wide open, and Steve hit me with perfection,” Wilson-Adam explaining his score.

Defense would be the deciding factor in this one. Tyrone’s defense made a huge stand right before the half when they shut down the Wildcats offense and forced them to go for it on fourth down. Tyrone stopped Central Mountain and got the ball back with not much time left before break.

Tyrone took a couple of shots downfield completing one to Hayden Zook, but the Wildcats defense held Tyrone and took a 14-14 game into break.

In the second the story was the defensive play by the Golden Eagles that held the Wildcats offense to 0 points after intermission.

“It felt good to come out strong. Our conditioning took over and they got worn out, and that’s when we took it to them,” Markus Wagner said about his defense.

Tyrone’s offense didn’t stop though. The offensive line could tell you that story. Tyrone ran the ball the whole second half. Along with running the ball every play Getz scored twice and iced the game for the Eagles 28-14.

The Eagles will host Bald Eagle next week 7:00pm at Gray Veterans Memorial field.
