TAM&HS students, staff decorate doors for holiday

By Kylie Barony

Sixteen middle school doors and thirteen high school doors have been decorated for this year’s TAM&HS Holiday Door Decorating Contest sponsored by the Renaissance Club.

“I think the door decorating contest is a great way to boost morale for students and staff. It also builds community and betters our holiday spirits!” Ms. Dobrowolsky, Renaissance Club advisor, said.

According to Dobrowolsky, the door decorating contest started seven years ago when Katie Chamberlain, a former Renaissance Club member, remembered decorating doors in elementary school and suggested that the Renaissance Club start the tradition at the high school. The club has been organizing the event ever since.

“I like the door decorating contest because we have permission to poke fun at the Dean--Mr. Murphy,” Bryce Kustenbauder, freshman said. His homeroom’s door theme is “S’murphy Christmas.”

Last year’s middle school winner was Mr. Whittaker and his “Santa is Unstoppable” door. The high school first place champion was veteran door decorating winner Mr. Funicelli with “South Park Helps Seals the Deal.”

“Anyone who puts in the time and effort could become a serious contender in this competition, but I’m not sure that there is another staff member as dedicated and enthusiastic about sharing the joy of Christmas as much as this guy,” Funicelli, chemistry teacher, jokingly said about himself.

Middle school students and staff will vote for their top three favorite doors on Wednesday, December 21. High school students and staff will vote on Thursday, December 22. The winners will be announced at the MS and HS Christmas assembly on Wednesday and Thursday, respectfully.
