TAHS athletes compete at PIAA District 6 Championships

By Corey Snyder

Tyrone’s athletes that competed in the 2012 PIAA district 6 championships put in a spectacular showing with two athletes moving onto the State Championships at Shippensburg University next weekend Friday, May 25, and Saturday, May 26.

Tyrone’s men’s team finished 13 with a total of 24 points and the women’s team tallied up 14 points while finishing 14th.

On the men’s side Charles Wilson-Adams, junior, took first in the high jump with a height of 6’4” qualifying for the State meet. Wilson-Adams also competed in the long jump with a distance of 19’ 7.5” placing ninth and scratched on all three attempts in the triple jump.

"I think I was just tired from the other two jumping events I had to do,'' Wilson-Adams, a junior, said. “I wanted to get one good jump in the triple jump and qualify for states, and then just focus on the high jump. But I kept scratching in the triple jump, so I had to keep doing it. I was just tired and couldn't to anything.''

Nick Patton, senior, had a disappointing day when he re-aggravated his hamstring injury while running the 100m. Patton has been to states since his freshman year and this year was heartbreaking for the senior.

"It's hard, especially my last year. I wanted to go out big and improve all my times. It [stinks] just getting hurt so early in the year and tying to come back just for today,'' Patton said, halting to wipe his eyes after getting a hug from his mother. "It's heartbreaking. It just wasn't meant to be this year.''

Cody Dickson, senior, and Corey Snyder, junior, competed in the javelin throw while both placing. Dickson placed 8th with a distance of 152’ 5”. Snyder qualified for the state meet with a distance of 174’ 2” while placing 2nd.

Hayden Zook, junior, competed in the 800m run placing 9th with a time of 2:06.78. Zook also competed in the 1600m setting a new personal record and placing 4th with a time of 4:38.17.

Aleic Hunter, freshman competed in the 400m dash and finished up 13th with a time of 54.92.

For the girls the 4x100m team finished 7th with a time of 53.37. Jordyn Swogger, sophomore, placed third in the 100m dash with a time of 13.11. Swogger also competed in the 200m dash finishing fourth. Michaela Diehl, freshman, placed eighth in the 400m with a time of 63.35. Lexi Patton, sophomore, competed in the 200m finishing eleventh.

Wilson-Adams and Snyder qualified for the State Championship Meet at Shippensburg University, Wilson-Adams in the high jump, and Snyder in the Javelin Friday, May 25, and Saturday, Ma
