Tyrone swimmers make a splash at Districts

On Friday, March 2nd, and Saturday March 3rd the Tyrone boys and girls district swim team competed in the Western Pennsylvania District Swimming Championships.

Held at Penn State’s McCoy Natatorium, the meet started at 4:30 on Friday and 3:30 on Saturday.

“I’m glad the swimmer’s times were where they were at the meet, and I hope to see the same swimmers back at districts next year,” Tom Getz, head coach, said.

Boys swimmers Brandon Fink, Devon Wiser, Rhett Everhart, and Jerame Parson competed in races and girls swimmers Alyssa Brisbin, Mikayla Harris, Jennie Kobuck, and Kayla Barony competed as well.

All of the boys and girls that qualified swam at least one relay race as a team at the meet.

The boys relay team which included Fink, Wiser, Everhart, and Parson swam the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay.

In the 200 free relay- the boys placed 11th overall with a final time of 1:41.59.

In the 400 free relay- the boys placed 8th overall with a final time of 3:48.43.

The girls relay team which included Brisbin, Harris, Kobuck, and Barony swam the 200 freestyle relay.

In the 200 free relay- the girls placed 13th overall with a final time of 2:02.01.

The boy’s race results are as follows-

Fink swam the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle.
In the 50 free Fink placed 9th overall with a time of 24.26 and in the 100 free Fink placed 7th overall with a time of 54.07.

Wiser swam the 200 freestyle and the 100 butterfly.
In the 200 free Wiser placed 13th overall with a time of 2:07.05 and in the 100 fly Wiser placed 16th overall with a time of 1:03.54.

Everhart swam the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle.
In the 200 free Everhart placed 9th overall with a time of 2:01.45 and in the 500 free Everhart placed 6th overall with a time of 5:29.18.

Parson swam the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle.
In the 50 free Parson placed 33rd overall with a time of 26.69 and in the 100 free Parson placed 30th overall with a time of 1:00.35.

“I’m proud of the team and they really swam their hardest all season,” Fink, junior, said.

The girl’s race results are as follows-

Brisbin swam the 200 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke.
In the 200 free Brisbin placed 12th overall with a time of 2:16.32 and in the 100 breaststroke Brisbin placed 12th overall with a time of 1:21.61.

Harris swam the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle.
In the 50 free Harris placed 8th overall with a time of 26.72 and in the 100 free Harris placed 10th overall with a time of 1:00.47.

Kobuck swam the 50 freestyle and she swam that for time.
In the 50 free Kobuck swam a time of 31.41.

Barony swam in the girls 200 freestyle relay.

“I think the girls did really well, and I’m definitely hoping to come back again next season,” Brisbin said.

The boys team scored 37.5 points at the meet and the girls team scored 10 points.
