Central’s special teams were a major contributing factor in the first four games of the season with combining five returns for touchdowns, but the Tyrone football team had none of it holding the Dragons to zero returns In their win Friday night 35-7.
Tyrone has had some earlier run-ins with Central, and the past couple years they have had been nothing les than exciting. The games have been decided by two touchdowns or less, the last one being in the playoffs last year with Tyrone coming out on top 17-7 to advance to the District 5-6 championship.
This match up was a little bit different.
Central now under new head coach Dave Baker entered the game (2-2).
Tyrone came out firing and scored the first touchdown of the night with a J.D Dorminy on a one yard run with 6:37 left in the first quarter.
Tyrone’s defense held to the challenge of the Dragons offense and stopped them on their second drive of the night.
When Tyrone got the ball back they didn’t waste any time when Steve Franco went to the air and hooked up with his wide out Nick Patton on a 53-yard pass right before the end of the first quarter.
Franco also hooked up with his other wide out junior Charles Wilson-Adams in the second quarter with a 41-yard pass with 10:45 left before break.
“It felt great scoring,” Wilson-Adams explaining his touchdown.
Coming out of the locker room after the break Tyrone’s running game took over and put up two more scores in the third quarter both by senior running back Chris Getz one from 17-yards out and another from 8-yards out. Both point after touchdowns were good by Dorminy.
Tyrone’s defense held a shutout the whole night until Centrals running back broke open a 67-yard run to put the only score on the board for the dragons.
Tyrone now (4-1) will travel down to Central Mountain next week while Central visits Penns Valley.
