This past summer Dudley McNitt, 2008 TAHS graduate, traveled to London, England for an internship at the Royal Veterinarian Hospital where he studied infectious diseases of animals.
“I have always wanted to see the world outside of the United States and I was given a chance to do so” Dudley McNitt, senior studying at UPJ with a major in biology and a minor in chemistry son of Mr. McNitt history teacher said.
McNitt traveled to London to intern at the Royal Veterinarian hospital, so when he returned back to the U.S he would have a better chance at a good job. McNitt traveled alone he had to go through the State Department, the British embassy and had to get his own passport because of health reasons.
From traveling overseas Dudley thought it wouldn’t have happened so soon, but he’s always wanted to be able to travel and do an internship and from this experience he got to do both at the same time.
“I think it was a great experience for Dudley. He learned a lot,” Mr. McNitt said.
During the last two weeks of internship, Mr. McNitt and his wife traveled to London, England. They spent their time traveling around Northern Europe. Mr. McNitt has not been overseas before he’s only been to Canada, so he was very excited about the Europe trip.
Traveling has helped Mr. McNitt in his world geography class. “I took great pictures for the class, was Able to visit first place. There’s no better education than that,” McNitt said.
“While overseas Dudley learned a lot, it helped boost his self confidence and you can do anything if you set your mind to it. IF you really want something then go for it.” McNitt said.
“I would strongly say to anyone that has a dream to go places outside the USA or within, that I was in your shoes and if you desire to get out there, the biggest and hardest step is actually doing it, talking about it and dreaming about it are easy, but actually signing up for it and getting the VISA’S and passports, etc. is the hardest part. It is not impossible to be from little ole Tyrone and never get out and see places. Just look for opportunities and when you see one, take it” McNitt said.
