Myers takes on Golden Eagle mascot duties

By Ashley Harker, Eagle Eye reporter

Penn State fans have the Nittany Lion who does one-armed push-ups after each touchdown. Now Tyrone fans have a Golden Eagle who is willing to do the one-armed push-ups…as long as the mascot’s beak does not get in the way. Ryan Myers, senior, took over the Golden Eagle mascot duties from Lindsay Emigh, junior, after the first game of the varsity football season.

“I decided to become the mascot so I could vent my ‘crazy’,” Myers said.

Myer’s mascot training included learning toe-touches and cheer stunts.

According to Myers, the best part of being the eagle is that he can be as crazy as possible but admitted that the worst part is the unbelievably hot costume. He enjoys attending all of the home and away football games but doesn’t like it when others think the Golden Eagle is a chicken.

If anyone is thinking about taking on the mascot duties in the future, Myers has these words of advice: “You have to be creative, you have to be crazy, and you [have to be prepared to] sweat a lot in the costume; you’re basically stuck in there the whole time!”
