By Sadie Jackson

Long-term substitute Ms. Vavreck is teaching Mrs. Verilla’s classes for the 2011-2012 school year. Vavreck teaches Totally Awesome Foods, Child Development, Pastry Chef, Nutrition, and Advanced Child Development.
“[I like teaching at Tyrone] because the students here are great. I teach eighth through twelfth grade, which is a wide range,” says Vavreck.
Vavreck’s favorite part of the day is when her homeroom gets there because she can really tell what the rest of the day is going to be like. She says they’re attitude says a lot. “I like Ms. Vavreck because she teaches by involving the class. She has made Advanced Child Development fun and interesting,” Jessica Miller, junior, stated.
Her least favorite part of the day is after lunch because she just ate and has to teach. Vavreck attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and she student taught at Indiana Area High School. Her major is in family and consumer sciences education. She also has a minor in special education. Her extracurricular activities included being part of the IUP’s rifle team, mortar board and community service.
Her first teaching job was here at TAHS as a long term substitute.
Vavreck attended McDowell High School in Erie, Pennsylvania. Her favorite subject in high school was sewing class because she was good at it. She was the president of the sewing club, and she would teach the other students how to sew because she got the projects done early. Vavreck lives by the quote, “Work hard. Play hard. Love hard.” Last year she made the National Rifle Association and was part of the NRA Collegiate Shooting program. Vavreck’s favorite food is her mom’s homemade lasagna. She enjoys watching Monsters Inc., listening to country music, watching “Reba,” and spending time with her four and a half month old black lab, Cameron.
